Junckers SUSTAINABILITY

The natural strength of wood.
Refined by Junckers.

Caring for the environment is central to our business.

Every piece of wood carries its own grain, colour and character. Shaped by nature, it combines distinctive beauty with the strength, durability and carbon storage that make solid hardwood an exceptional flooring material.

At Junckers, decades of specialist knowledge help us turn these natural properties into high-performance floors designed for beautiful spaces and long-term use.

CREATED BY NATURE. CRAFTED BY JUNCKERS.

Natural character you can see and feel

Look closely at a Junckers floor and you see more than a surface: you see the structure and story of real wood. Growth rings, grain and variations in colour are part of the material itself. They develop as the tree grows and help give different wood species their distinctive appearance and properties. Natural variation is not an imperfection. It is what gives every Junckers floor an authentic expression of its own.

Naturally individual. No two floorboards are exactly alike.
Variation in grain and colour is the signature of genuine solid wood.

ENGINEERED AROUND THE NATURE OF WOOD

Made to perform as indoor conditions change
Wood is hygroscopic. This means it exchanges moisture with the air around it.

When the relative humidity changes, the moisture content of the wood can change too. As a result, wood may expand or contract slightly. This is a natural characteristic of the material, not a defect.

What does that mean for a wooden floor?
Indoor climate matters.

Junckers designs flooring with this natural behaviour in mind. Our knowledge of wood, moisture, temperature and relative humidity guides how our floors are dried, manufactured and prepared for installation.

With correct installation, appropriate care and a suitable indoor climate, a Junckers solid hardwood floor is made to perform reliably over time.

STRENGTH MADE FOR REAL LIFE

Solid hardwood performance, built from the ground up

Trees are built to carry weight and withstand changing forces. Junckers harnesses the natural strength of hardwoods such as beech and oak to create floors for homes, workplaces, public buildings and demanding activity at the big sports arenas.

But lasting performance is about more than hardness. It comes from the complete flooring system.

From timber selection and floorboard construction to surface treatment, maintenance and refurbishment, every element contributes to how the floor looks, feels and lasts.

WOOD, CARBON AND THE FULL LIFE CYCLE

Carbon stored by nature, assessed with transparency

While trees grow, photosynthesis uses energy from sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into plant material. Some of the carbon originating from atmospheric CO₂ becomes part of the tree and is stored in its wood. When the tree is harvested and its wood is made into a product, that previously absorbed carbon remains stored in the wood while it stays in the product, with the eventual carbon outcome depending on its life cycle and end-of-life route.

End of life.
What happens subsequently depends on how the wood is reused, recycled, treated or disposed of.
At Junckers, we believe credible environmental communication must consider the whole life cycle. Carbon stored in wood is important, but it should not be presented as equivalent to avoided emissions.

The full picture matters. Carbon storage is not the same as zero emissions.
Manufacturing, transport, installation, maintenance and end-of-life all contribute to environmental impact. Junckers uses life-cycle information, including Environmental Product Declarations, to make product performance more transparent and comparable.

DESIGNED TO LAST. MADE TO BE RENEWED.

A Junckers floor is made for more than one chapter

A floor creates lasting value when it can stay in use. Replacing it requires new materials, manufacturing and installation, so durability and renewability both matters.

Circularity starts by challenging the reflex to buy new. Is the material truly at the end of its useful life—or have we simply become accustomed to treating it that way?

Unlike flooring with only a thin decorative layer, Junckers solid hardwood gives you genuine wood through the full wear surface.

That gives a Junckers floor valuable options for ongoing maintenance, local repair and, where appropriate, sanding and refinishing. The result is a floor designed to evolve with the space rather than be replaced at the first signs of wear.

Long life by design
Junckers floors are made to last for decades and even after more than 50 years of use, the best next step may not be disposal.

Circularity begins by challenging the instinct to buy new.
Is the material truly at the end of its useful life, or have we simply become accustomed to treating it that way?

Junckers can take back selected used floors and refurbish them for a new chapter, extending their service life and allowing the wood to become part of both the building’s history and its future.

RESPONSIBLE WOOD STARTS AT THE SOURCE

From forest to floor, sourcing matters.

Wood is renewable, but responsible forestry cannot be taken for granted. That is why Junckers places importance on where timber comes from and how it moves through the supply chain.

Where and how the timber was grown and harvested matters. Independent forest certification provides systems for demonstrating responsible forest management and tracing certified forest-based material through supply chains.

FSC and PEFC
FSC's Chain of Custody system verifies that material carrying FSC claims is tracked through relevant stages between forest-based sourcing and finished goods.

PEFC likewise maintains standards covering both sustainable forest management and Chain of Custody for forest and tree-based products.

Confidence backed by systems
Certification is more than a logo. Its value comes from the standards, independent controls and traceability that support the certified claim.
